Finding Text
Return to Introduction  Previous page  Next page
Before you can do anything else in Global Search and Replace you have to find the entities you are interested in. Only once you have found entities will you be able to replace any text.

So the first thing you need to do is fill in the text you want to search for:

Two types of search are possible: literal or regular expression:

The text you search for may be plain text in the case of a literal search, or it may be a regular expression.

You can control how widely Global Search and Replace will search by specifying a scope from the menu. The scopes available are:

n the current application
n all applications in the search path
n all applications within the project
n within the last search results

There are also some options relating to how the search will be performed. The options are:

n match word - only match complete words
n match case - a successful match must be the same case as the request
n exclude system libraries - do not search in VO's system libraries
n exclude custom - do not search in applications that have been put in an exclusion list

When you click on the Find button the search will be performed. All matching entries are listed in the listview in the middle of the window. Every match is a separate line in the listview - there may be multiple matches in any entity, sometimes even more than one match on a single line - each will appear separately in the listview. The pane at the bottom of the window shows the source code for the current match.
